During my senior year at Emerson College in Boston, I completed a directed study in magazine writing under the supervision of The New York Times Magazine writer Benoit Denizet-Lewis. For this self-created course, I wrote in-depth profiles on local artists—all of whom have faced struggles with mental health—to help humanize the archetype of a "suffering artist."
